How many days did you leave your casing in the incubator? Maybe not long enough?? This "hobby" requires much patience. Those cakes look fine for the 1st flush. They will be better now that your fc is stable.

I just read that tek. I did not do it right. There is white clumps floating in my jar, but it is very cloudy. I am gonna follow this new tek. Trial and error!!!

Cultivation / liquid culture

I started some lc about 11 days ago. It appears as though it worked. I used honey. How long can my jar survive in the fridge??

I use polyfill for my jars normally, I guess that will work.

Thanks Darksyde!! I am gonna give it a try. Don't have honey though, any kind of substitution that you know of? If not, I will have to run out and buy some. My guess is once inoculated with LC, the colonization of my grains should be faster than nocking with spores.

Darksyde, the lc sounds like a very cool concept. Just a couple ?'s......... after the jar is in the inncubator, it becomes liquid mycellium??? How long will the jar keep?? Can it be stored??

I am glad to hear that. I was starting to think think that we were doomed.

Cultivation / mushrooms opening early
November 20, 2010, 09:26:56 AM
some of my mushrooms are growing and opening under the casing surface. anybody have a clue as to why this is occurring??? they are in the same environment as the other shrooms that are growing just fine. i think that after i cased them, i left them in the incubator too long.

shaking your jars is a good idea. it will colonize the corn faster. i shake my jars twice during that cycle. always good results.

i mix peat/verm---60/40. add the correct amount of H2O. cover the glass bowl with plastic wrap and nuke for 5-6 minutes. i check temp with a food thermometer (gotta get it up to 200 degrees) and let cool. after it is cool, lysol the shit out of my kitchen (wait a few minutes) then case.

do you leave the hygrometer in the fc?? the reason i ask is that i left mine in the fc and the thing filled with water. i was not sure if you put it in to get a reading, than take it out.

i do not have a hygrometer to gauge the effects of fae's. how many times a day should i be doing this?? the mycellium grew up a few of my shrooms. i know that means not enough fae. can someone recommend a good hygrometer? had one before, but it crapped out.

they look good enough to eat. -_-. the blue/green coloring looks like bruising. that is normal. congrats on your grow!! happy trails

i have a nic sized rubbermaid container. pearlite on the bottom, pretty standard. i just didn't know if the fae was needed in the early stages of growth.

is the fresh air exchange necessary before the mushrooms appear? i am talking about the time you put them in the fruiting chamber but before you see the actual mushies. just trying to avoid contams.
