If you are crumbling your cakes into a pan for bulk, how thick should the layer of inoculated spawn be before you add the layer of casing?

Cultivation / When you Pick your fruits..........????
February 27, 2010, 02:23:46 PM
how far down on the cake do you pick?  Ive seen pictures with clusters that are sort of a large lump of white/stalk etc where several stalks come out to form fruits.

so do you cut them out or pull them off the cake??

anyone have any techniques or methods to best save the cake for the subsequent flushes?

THanks

Cultivation / Question about casings and flushes
February 25, 2010, 11:28:35 PM
Pardon my inexperience and newbieness.

So when you crumble your cakes into a Fruiting container and cover with a casing, after your first fruiting harvest, what do you do to get it prepared for the first flush?  Since it is not in cake form you cant dunk it, so do you spray it down with water, cover and then put back into incubater for a day?  or do you cover and leave at room temp for a few days?

If its in cake form and you have several cakes covered in casing, you just remove the casing and dunk in water 12-24 hours then recover with casing, should that casing be new sterile casing or can you use the old casing?

Thanks

Cultivation / Proper harvesting time for Fruits
February 25, 2010, 01:52:43 PM
Hell all,  just wondering if it makes a difference at what time to harvest the fruits of your labor.

Does it matter if the caps are still attached to veil or fully bloomed?
Does it make a difference in ptncy

Do you pick all at once or select only the biggest ones until they have all bloomed?

Just curious on any suggestions or preferences.
Thanks

PF - Tek / Crumbling cales vs solid
February 19, 2010, 11:30:13 PM
Im not so sure on the conversations I have seen.  SO when you say crumbling your cakes, you mean once the mycelium has grown and is close to fruiting in a jar, you crumble them and spread them in a case and ad a casing layer over that, let it sit fora  few more days and then fruit?

so how do you do a second flush if it is crumbled, do you still put the mix in water and then filter it and set it back in its case?

Im confused.

General topics / How do you properly flush a cake?
January 30, 2010, 09:07:59 PM
After your first flush, how do you clip the Shroom?

do you leave a little nub where it was or do you completely remove it from the cake for the 2nd flush?

whats the best way to get the cake ready for a 2nd flush??

Thanks

Cultivation / Collecting spore prints
January 28, 2010, 10:27:44 PM
Hello all, can you take the spores released from the mature heads of a new harvest and use those down the line to inoculate more cakes for further use?  or anything close to that.  or is it too easily contaminated to the point where it is easiest to purchase spore syringes?

If anyone has a method or way of making the best out of your purchased spores, let me know.  THanks!
