As I originally said TESTING I got two bags of perlite that're going to be used once I birth my cakes. But I don't like cleaning up moldy anything so when I get home I will dispose of it. I think my humidity is around 80-90 would this rise if I had an inch of perlite at the bottom that is wet?

Well this is why I prefer to ask =P I read some where when you can SEE the walls sweating that your humidity is around 90-100. RIght now is is below 90%. Should this go up when I use perlite instead of a few pieces of cardboard?(picture coming up)

I'm just testing out my box to see how many holes I may need, but my hydrometer is reading 100% yet there isn't any precipitation on the sides of the box. I just got some ripped up cardboard in there soaked in a little over 1L of water. Should I be concerned or what?

Well I just disposed of 3/5 that were indeed contamnated. Here are the remaining two, one which I think might be contaminated(little grey area) and the other which I think the mycellium has stopped growing(I left this one above the fridge..). On a side note most of the contaminated ones smelt of mushrooms  ^_^ I really had to beat the jars to pop them out though this normal for jars that're slightly tapered?
Check first post pictures of the for remaining two jars... Lemme know if anything seems queer about it.

I know I know, I just have been a bit busy with school work, or some leisure activites to relax... So it is a bit more easy for me to ask here than to read up some where else. I will be doing some reading tomorrow provided I have time.

haha that is a nice easy break down, so if I can make a substrate colonized I could indeed use it w/ casing?

I usually do search a few terms and check the first couple of results if there are any. :P But I will probably read a bunch. Just out of curiousity what would be a safe number of dried mushrooms might I be able to get out of two cakes(Hopefully they don't contaminate as well)

Actually I have looked at that, a few times they LOOK the same! Whats the difference between the two? What type of store might sell a polyfill filter/floss?

Hmm I really need to read up on casing because I'm so confused. Haven't read much atm but substrate is what you colonize the spores/mycellium in, the casing you would cover it with a nutrious layer until it starts pinng(?) and FC is where you put it to fully grow?

Well I usually don't make actual sugary treats for myself or others... But having little chocolates for my friends after xmas wouldn't look like antyhing bad, provided they aren't idiots and give a chocolate to some kid xD
edit;
wow that actually sounds really good, and easy. I just need to scrounge up enough money to buy a muffin tray! Guess it's time I do a little work :)

Well christmas is coming up and I would love to share some wonderful delights with my friends, and a class mate. So far I think I'm only going to have two cakes this month(:(), but I just got back from a christmas party and got like three bags of chocolate candies. I would like to melt them down and make some mushroom chocolates, thing is I am not really sure how to make normal chocolates xD If possible I wouldn't mind melting the chocolate, then adding in diced mushrooms. With my verm cakes(I hear you can soak them in water/tea and still experience the effects) put them in some form of hot liquid and add that liquid into the chocolate. Any person favourite recipes you guys have?

heh pretty intriguing shame that the guy was charged though...

Yeah I plan on reproducing my own spore syringes because at roughly 20$ a syringe I won't be able to afford that since I will be sharing my fruits with my friends and class mates who want to try it XD

Alright I understand not to use some stuff for casing, I just would really prefer not to waste any of the vermiculite and perlite, since I am a tad tight on cash after buying my basic supplies/containers for this...

Would cotton balls work just as good as the polyfil layer? Cause I wanted to do that with my lids since I couldn't find the polyfill filters locally(didn't look that hard though). Can you reuse a polyfill filter or do you need to use a new one every batch?

heh I got the terms wrong I know... I think if I am wording this right now, could I use brown rice flour cake with a casing? If you know what I mean don't just mock my poor terminology actually give me an answer :P

Thanks for the suggestion I got a 1 part bleach and 10 part water solution in a jar, and lysol disinfecting wipes. I also wiped the entire jars with rubbing alchohol on a cotton ball before I even put the substrate mix in...

Could I use brown rice flour and vermiculite to make a substrate for casing?
