Thanks for the advice.  This is an old post with my old F.C.  I made a new one using the air stone and 5 inches of stone to rest the cakes on.  It's been great and I'm having much better yields.

No I'm not misting my cakes at all. My F.C. is at 80-99% all the time.  Condensation collects on the walls and drips down all the time. I think some of the darkening came from a few mushrooms (not pictures) that opened up and spread some spores.

MoGro is correct. I see light to moderate condensation inside my jars all the time.  As long as its not pooling at the bottom you're good.

I agree.  Do not place the light right on the lid and make sure it's bright enough. Most lights are plenty bright enough.  I have my lights using a LED light source on an automatic timer with my light cycle.

PF - Tek / Re: Contaminated?
June 28, 2013, 09:21:42 AM
I use BRF (Pk-Tek) and from it looks like to me you just have too much BRF is your mix.  Flour mix varies in color slightly depending on what manufacture you got it from.  Make sure you follow the measurements closely...  I had little patches of yellow and specks of brown on the sides of my jars and I left them alone until 100% sure they were contaminated and the white mycelium grew over those areas.   I would say be patient until you can confirm your suspicion.  It wont do you any harm to leave it sealed in the jar; and under no circumstances should you open the jar in your house.  If it is contamination take it far away from your house and dump the cake.  Place the jar in a bag to keep it sealed.  Also be mindful of the wind and your clothes. If it is contamination (trichoderma or something similar) then you don't want the spores getting on your clothes and/or getting in your house.   Hope that helps.

I can finally claim success after failing about 5 times.  The climate that I live in is extremely dry and It's been a challenge for me to keep my cakes moist and warm enough for them to pin.   This is my 3rd flush with these cakes and I'm noticing that my caps are not as light of a brown as they were the first flush.  I feel like they could be getting too much water so I'm backing off the water about 15%. As I look at the pictures of the grow I can see them slowly changing color with each pic over the course of 2/3 days. Can anyone confirm or rebuttal my hypothesis?  These are just a few basic pics.  Tell me what you think?

So I'm on my second flush with a set of cakes I harvested on Friday and already they are starting to pin.  I did a 12 hour drunk to rehydrate them.  I just wanted to share and pass on some knowledge.

Thank you.  I have my cakes soaking for 12 hours then I will place them back in the F.C. and hope I get a second flush.  How many flushes can you usually get? 3-4? How do you know when the cake is done producing?

Thanks MoGro I was just going to ask that same question but DJP beat me to it...Thanks.
How long should you wait before you should expect to see new pin growth?

So here are some pics of my (pathetic) harvest. My original cakes never produced pins and I didn't have room for about 5 cakes in the F.C. so I left them in my closet.  I gave up on the project and to my surprise the jars in my closet formed pins.  They were distressed when I birthed them but I was able to nurture them back to health.  As you can see I have about 5 shrooms from about 20 jars I colonized. Those results are horrible. So here are a few questions...
1) How do I induce pinning.? (I lowered the CO2 levels and raised the O2.)
2) In a perfect situation I should pick the shrooms right when I caps open. Not when they are fully mature correct?
3) Are the stalks safe for ingestion or only the caps? (I've never eaten the stalks but some people have)

DJP PA- You should have posted your question on a new thread...which I see you did.  This is a conversation about a specific topic and if you want to join this conversation you are more then welcome to but If you have you something else to discuss then you should should have done in your thread...and only your thread.

So I've started to have some success.  I will post some pictures later.  Here is what happened.  I put my fully colonized jars in my F.C. ( as you can see above, they where completely white inside and out.)  but I didn't have room in my F.C. for every cake so I left a few in the jar.  Well my F.C. cakes didn't do well so I said F this sh!t.....I forgot about about the jars in my closet.  I came home from work and looked at them...to my astonishment they were covered in tons of little to medium sized pins....So today at I will transfer them to my F.C. and try these.  Pics to come.

I am misting them about 3/4 times a day and my RH is 75-99% but they are looking dry. My other cakes have come out of their casing jars looking much much healthier then these.   I'm taking the lid off twice a day and flushing the air.....   I should start to see pinning within 7-10 days?  This is the part that I always fail at.   I always get nice jars that colonize well but when I place them in the F.C. they just fall to shit.....

So I added the cakes to the F.C. and my temp is a nice 72F and 80-95% R.H. The cakes already started to blue within a few hours of placing them in the chamber....I'm a little nervous but Im goingto let them sit for 48 hours and see if they whiten back up.   (they all were completely white when I birthed them)  The light is on an automatic  12h on/off cycle.

Those are all great answers..I was thinking along the same lines.   70F is what my room stays at all the time ..sometimes maybe jumps up to 74 depending on what Im doing... I am waiting on a reply from MoGrow and then I will put these cakes in my FC. I will keep you guys posted with pics...

PF - Tek / Fruiting Chamber questions?!?!
February 14, 2013, 03:53:22 AM
Here are a few questions I have been wondering about.  I have read a few conflicting answers to these problems so I was wondering if any of you smart cultivators could shed some light on this for me. Thank you for your time and input! -- Happy growing.

1)What are the temp ranges and humidity levels do you keep your F.C. at when fruiting?  (I've read about 4 conflicting theories on this)

2)Can I directly mist the cakes or should I just spray the walls and let it drip down?

3)I have a closet I can put these in....should I buy a humidifier and keep the ambient R.H. at 99?? ( I have the cakes on a layer of perlite and It seems to stay in the >85% range)

4)How important is Air exchange and CO2 levels to get the cakes to pin? What should I do to encourage pinning?

It is definitely bruising.  Will the bruising keep the cake from fruiting? And I have had my cakes in my FC for 7 days now and no pins.  I have solid cakes with good colonization...am I missing something?  And thank you for your help darksyde; I give you props for sharing your knowledge.

Do I need to be worried if they have a blue tint to them?

OK thank you. I have been leaving them alone and letting them do their thing...I try and only check them once per day.  Also I've noticed a light blue tint on 3 of the cakes.  Does this mean they are in distress?
