Oh yeah it's air tight and I sterilized the jar first too so I hope I'll be okay. Fingers crossed cold shocking helps.

Sick! Looking forward to it, thanks!

Hey darksyde, would you be able to pm me that information as well? I'm a first time grower in the process of fruiting my first cakes and am eager to try other methods on my next batch which are currently in the colonization process.

Thanks!

Good luck with the grow man. If this helps at all, during my colonization period my temperatures got all the way down to 20 at night and the jars still colonized completely, with no mold, in 25 days.

So I wouldn't worry about 26 being too low! :)

Well I've submerged the one cake without pins in a jar of water that's currently in my fridge. I'll keep it there for about 12 hours before putting it back into the fruiting chamber and cross my fingers I guess.

God damn, I actually am really enjoying the whole growing process, even with the set backs. It reminds me of high school chem labs, except in this experiment I get to eat the results hahahaha. So rewarding!

Alright, I just added the tinfoil layer to separate the cakes from the perlite. I've been fanning like crazy since I read about how important FAE is. I take the lid off and waft air at the chamber at least 4 times a day.

Is it too late to shock the cakes with cool temperatures? If not, how would I go about doing that?

Also, is there going to come a point where the cakes are no longer even able to pin, or they'll just...go bad?

Thanks so much again for the help! My one pin is growing at an alarming rate, but remains the only one. :(

PF - Tek / Fruiting Questions (with pics)

Hey guys,

So far this forum has been the answer to all of my problems as a first time grower and I'm happy to report that I am well into the fruiting process of my first grow.

However, I've encountered somewhat of an issue - the fruiting seems to be a rather slow process. It's been 8 days in the fruiting chamber and I've had but 1 pin, which popped up on the 6th day, and seems to be growing well. Is this pace reasonable, or could I be encountering problems? It seems odd that on two cakes I have only 1 tiny mushroom, 8 days into fruiting. Thank you very much once again for the insight guys.

Here are the pics

Would you recommend still soaking the colonized cakes overnight and then doing the dunk and roll?

Here are photos of the jars I'm talking about. They are 26 and 25 days old, respectively.

Thanks again!

Hey,

I've followed the Pf-Tek rather meticulously over the past 25 days and noticed the spread of mycelium essentially seemed to halt after about  18 days. The problem is, I'm not sure if it's fully colonized. There's still about 1/4 inch of verm that hasn't been colonized at the top. I've waited for a week to see if there would be any growth and there hasn't been.

My question is, am I ready to begin the fruiting process? I'll try and post some pictures here soon for you so you guys can tell me what you think.

Thank you!!

Awesome, thanks a lot! I'll be sure to do that.

Also, what should the temperature be in the fruiting chamber and what kind of lighting should there be?

Hello all,

I would like to thank everyone on this site first of all for providing awesome information. Growing mushrooms for the first time has been remarkably straight forward given all of the information found on this site.

That said, I have a few questions and I would appreciate any/all advice.

I recently inoculated 2 jars to begin with and was delighted to see the growth of mycelium within 5 days. I'm currently awaiting full colonization but am already wondering about fruiting.

The pictures/descriptions in the Pf-Tek series do not mention things such as soaking the colonized cakes overnight and later coating them in dry verm to fruit, while the videos provided (Part 4) advocate this. Is it necessary to soak/coat the cakes to initiate fruiting?

Also, the videos do not mention "pinning" unless I am mistaken. Is pinning necessary before you begin fruiting?

And, finally, what kind of yield can I expect from 2 1/2 pint cakes? I inoculated each with ~1.5 cc's of Golden Mammoth spores.

Thank you so much!!
