PF - Tek / Re: PF-Tek last step fails =/

1. Yes rye is ok.

2. 400 ml = 1 pint jars , you can use 1 pint jars for pf tek.

3. Substrate preparation
For one ½ pint jar(~240 ml) you will need:
=> 140 ml vermiculite
=> 40 ml brown rice flour
=> some vermiculite to fill the jar to the top (app. 20 ml)
=> water   <----- This is for 240 ml or 1/2 pint jars. Adjust the amounts accordingly for 400 ml jars.

4. Alot of people wait 1 week after they see full colonization to ensure the myc has developed in the middle of the jar.
You can store fully colonized jars in the fridge for about 2 - 3 weeks.

5. I have never put holes in my FC. Some people do and some people don't.

6. You need to birth the cakes after full colonization. It stops growing because it's ready to produce fruit , after awhile it will stop growing in the jar. You can fruit in the jar but it is not the best way to get the most out of your effort.

substrate ,
You have to get that RH up.
You may need to check into a ultrasonic cool mist to lay down the whoop ass.

Rh will drop during FAE.
Not to worry ............
It will be ok.
You need RH at NO LESS than 94 percent for cakes , the more the better.

March 10, 2010, 05:25:52 PM
wrf as substitute for brf is teh FAIL !!!!!!!!!
As you can see in substrates pics in the first link.
Spotty fruiting at best.
Those cakes could produce more fruit if you went to brf and cased them , be sure to  ensure that they did not compact as some of yours look according to their growth.

Unlike the other two have stated it is theoreticly possible to do it with ground rye berries. <--- You may have it in your local supermarket.
I would follow the same measurements as PF tek to start and adjust accordingly.
Think of it as a RF tek  :)
Hodgson Mills sells ground rye.

But of course you could use grains with a casing and double what you harvest.

Yep thats just myc growing on your stems.
Myc growing on the stem is not uncommon.
See how the one mushie is curled?
That is due to lack of RH.

Increase the RH and FAE and your cakes will begin to flourish.

Good luck cause I know they can be a bitch to get rid of , but in those links you will be able to find ways to control if not kill them.

As the others have stated.
NEVER EVER take the lid off till its time to birth and case.
Hopefully you didn't screw up your grow.

Just because you caught a post on failbook doesn't mean anything.
I have tons of pics of all my grows floating around the net and I have never once in the 10 years of growing had any problems.
Get rid of the paranoia cause you wasted alot of invested time by doing what you did.

The first pic looks like slight bruising to me.
The second pic has me a tad more concerened. There is 2 little dots that look like Trich.
I can tell you took a pic of two differant sides of the cake.
The best thing to do is to isolate that cake and let it go for a couple days.
If it is contam it will be 2 - 5 times as big in a couple days and then you will know for sure.

General topics / Re: How do you properly flush a cake?
January 30, 2010, 09:35:30 PM
Twist and pull.

Try not to leave any remains from your harvest.
Leaving shit like that can cause contam and is massive fail.

"whats the best way to get the cake ready for a 2nd flush??"

DUNK IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PF - Tek / Re: Best rye grain casing?
January 20, 2010, 09:13:38 AM
There is no "best" casing layer.
Simply because a casing layer is to be non nutritive.
"Best" casing layer is all a matter of opinion.
If your trying to figure out how your gonna get the most via casing or w/e , then you need to figure in Humidity , Temps , Multi-spore vs. Isolated , Nutrients within the substrate , etc, etc.

I use topsoil for my casing layer. <---- Thanks Anno !!!!  :D

Salt will not work with trich.
I don't give a fuck what anyone else says.
All salt does is take away from the area in which your myc could be growing.
I.E , myc hates salt and will avoid it like the plauge.
Proof can be seen Here.
There is no myc growth of any kind where salt was applied or in the surrounding areas.
If you see trich on the surface you have yet to see how far it is within you casing/substrate layers.

There are only 2 choices with a contam'd tray or cake.
1. Throw it out.
2. Move it outside.

Moving it outside can at least give you a 50/50 chance of at least getting 1 or 2 flushes from the contam'd tray/cake.
The amount of colonization seems to play a big roll in in the chances of a harvest.
The more that's colonized before the noticed contam , the better the odds of a possible flush or 2.

Just a little to think about :)

How does a thread about trading spores turn into "how much does bencin(fuel) costs in USA?" ????????

I trade spores.
There are 3 states in america that have laws against spores , and they are Idaho , Gerogia , and California.
If you live in another country I can't be much help , I don't know other countries laws.

I will not send spores to states or countries that have laws against spores.
I also have no problem using my name when I send spores to places that can have them.
What you do with the spores is your choice and "I" can't be held responsible for what you do with them.

You may ask yourself then........
"Why are you here helping others learn this trade/hobby?"
Quite simple actually.
Knowledge is not illegal. ;)
