General topics / Re: Mycelium Question
February 15, 2010, 05:08:57 PM
Yea, two weeks is a long time to see no colonization, but be patient. I'm doing 2 different kinds at the same time and one kind is real fast (currently in the Fruiting Chamber), and the other kind is real slow (still colonizing). I innoculated on Jan. 14th. The slower one is only at about 15% colonization, and it's been 4 weeks, haha. I didn't see any mycelium until about 20 days after innoculating, and my Incubating temps were pretty much perfect. Just wait it out, I know it's tough. I was worried that they weren't going to grow at all, but good things are likely to come.

As for a reason why 2 are colonizing faster than the other 10...It may be because those 2 jars got a little bit more spore juice?   lol. Dont worry, sounds like you are well on your way.

Good Luck LivingDead1224, hope everything works out for you.   ^_^

PF - Tek / Re: Pinning Question...
February 11, 2010, 10:53:19 PM
So, my cakes were fully colonized. The vermiculite barrier at the top fell down the sides when the cake shrunk, causing me to think that they werent fully colonized. So, all my worries were for nothing. Cakes are currently being dunked, and will be put in the FC at approx. 8 or 9 in the morning. I'll be sure to put some pics up as soon as I take some. I basically just have a Poor Mans Pod.

Thanks for all the help guys. Been a real life saver. This is my first time growing and I have had no REAL problems, and I have you guys to thank for it.   ^_^

Cool, thanks MT. The odd thing is, the cakes don't look like they are fully colonized, and yet they are pinning. Do cakes sometimes look a little uncolonized when they are in fact fully colonized? I don't wanna birth them too early, but they are all pretty much pinning. Just curious if I should wait a few more days, or go ahead and birth them since they are pinning.

Thanks for all the help.  ^_^

PF - Tek / Pinning Question...
February 09, 2010, 06:52:43 PM
Quick question guys. Can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

What should I do about my cakes pinning in the jars? I wanted to dunk before I put them in the FC, but I don't know what to do about the pins. Should I remove the pins then dunk, or dunk with the pins? Or should I just put them in the FC and dunk on the second flush?

Thanks as always guys. I'll try to throw some pics up as soon as I can.

Don't think so. If the water is above 26C, the fish tank heater that you have set to 26C just shuts off.   ^_^

Yea, MT is right. Those jars won't work for cakes. It will be a real problem trying to birth them, and that's just going to ruin all your hard work. They would work for grains, however. I would just use the glasses like MT said, they seem to be fine.  ^_^

As for the 24 pack of jars, it could be a good investment in the long run. You can use 12 jars for cakes, and have 12 jars leftover for making prints for new syringes. Or, you could start 12 new cakes and have a nice constant flow of colonized cakes. Just a suggestion. Good Luck Cap King.   ^_^

I'm currently working on my first project, and I went CRAZY cleaning for weeks before I innoculated. It was definently worth cleaning like a crazy person, because I have no contams yet ( knock on wood, lol ). LYSOL and ALCOHOL FTW.   ^_^

LOL, I don't think we can wait to see them either Davie. Sounds like you are gonna have some MONSTERS!

Maybe you should try to pick up a print or syringe of Orissa India. They are supposed to get big from what i've read about. Just a thought.  -_-

Good Luck Davie, can't wait to see your results.  ^_^

PF - Tek / The Pics I Promised!!!
January 30, 2010, 07:42:09 PM
Well, these are my jars. Only Dancing Tiger right now, considering that the Malabars are a bit slower and you can't really see what's going on.  ^_^

These 2 pics are from Jan 21, 2010. One week after Innoculation. Dancing Tiger.  ^_^

These are Pictures of the same Jars, taken today, 1/30/2010. This is my most colonized jar. The second pic is of the bottom of the jar.  ^_^

On another note, it appears that 4 of the Malabar Jars now have some mycelium growing. Woot! That's all for now. I'll throw some more pictures up later, hopefully with some better quality and lighting, lol. Can't wait to birth these guys and fruit them. Good Luck on your projects guys!  ^_^

PF - Tek / Re: How long are steralized jars good for?
January 28, 2010, 08:41:18 PM
Well, some people send pre-sterilized jars in the mail, so I guess they would be ok for a few days. As long as they are kept in an extremely sterile environment.

I ordered from Mycopath a few weeks before his daughter passed...took 2 months to get my order. Not a big deal IMO, totally understandable circumstances.

When I did recieve my order, there was 10 grain bags with filter patches for free. I personally like Mycopath, even without the free stuff.

I sent cash to Ralphster and got my order in 6 days. Worked out awesome for me.  ^_^

You can also ask for a free spore syringe. He will send you a free one as long as you write down that you want one on the order form. It's a different one every month too.  ^_^
