Cultivation / Re: sources for spores?
May 05, 2009, 05:09:58 PM
Agreed, SPOREWORKS.COM is where I go for all of my spores, and have been for years. They have a lot of strains that some places don't have, and even have a couple of PF originals. Usually packed to 12cc's and always sterile.

Haha, I actually have Lophophora Williamsii baby pups in the workings. The official peyote and a few of the Trichocereus genus as well. My pups are only a year and a half old and the most of them are around an inch in diameter. ^_^

Ooooh goodies! What strain did you get?

I don't watch filtered media, and yes I do my homework smart ass. The important keys are to find out what the bills are trying to change, then figure out when it is being pushed to voting. In any case it was brought up to let the readers know what topics are being considered in the U.N. This is supposed to be aimed world wide.

 Well, ignorance about the topic will get it passed... Although yes you're right, the likelihood of it's success is slim to none.....

General topics / HR875 "Ban of Organic Gardening"
April 16, 2009, 10:18:01 PM
As I understand it, HR875 is a bill that is being pushed forward to outlaw the sale and production of organic gardens and their products. This bill (if passed) will permit the nationalization of all food product that come from plants and animals. The United States government will be in control of what chemicals and treatments go into your meat products, such as growth hormones and or preservatives to ensure "quality control". They will also have control of what goes into your plant and vegetable products, such as pesticides and fungicides. Codex alimentarius, funded by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of America) and WHO (World Health Organization) will be the sole distributor of all of your natural foods, from eggs and milk to beef asparagus and bananas. Rural farms and fruit stands will disappear, and organic foods will be OUTLAWED! Speculation of the regulation of personal back yard gardens have even come about. Various vitamins will be regulated and/or outlawed deemed as unnecessary sources of nutrition.

Here are some provisions on mushroom products set by Codex alimentarius, I took them right out of the website.

CODEX STAN 38 Page 3 of 13
All edible fungi permitted for sale by the competent authorities in the consuming
countries. "(i.e. the U.S. government)"

3.2.1 Raw Material: only fresh edible fungi which have been treated or processed
immediately after they have been picked, before deterioration sets in, may be used in the
preparation of fungus products. Both as raw material and as preserved fungi, they shall be
healthy, clean, undamaged, free, as far as possible, of maggot damage and possess the flavour
and taste appropriate to the species.

1. Yes you can Innoc and Birth in the same room.

2. Yes.

3. The best/fastest way is grains, but they all take about the same amount of time.As for temps, I keep mine at room temp with no additional heat. No light during incubation except to check on them.

4.Although the TEK you choose is important,it means nothing without proper sterility technique.
The PF TEK that is HERE will work just as good as the "let's grow mushrooms" vid.
Sterility is the key to this hobby.

5.That depends on the amount of space you have to grow.
Clear plastic tubs that you can purchase at walmart and perlite work well for FCs. You can even setup a humidifier to the tub but it's not really needed.
You can use a indoor greenhouse which will require a humidifier.
Ambient sunlight is all the light you need to grow mushrooms.

Once every month or so. I just grow mushrooms among other things for the intrigue, the life cycles of plants and mushrooms in general is fascinating.

You say RH is fine? 95+? Hmmmm, are you making sure to give them lots of fresh air as well, fanning them out regularly to make sure there is no CO2 build up inside the chamber? That's a biggie... Try warming it up a little as well, I have found that some strains are more resilient than others when it comes to temp, opt for 76-78.

MT is probably right, it's probably just new myceleal growth, I wouldn't be too worried about it. At this stage of full colonization, the mycelium is able to fight off invaders, so it is somewhat unlikely that a contaminate would be the problem. Good work ^_^

PF - Tek / Re: Inoculating a WET Jar
April 16, 2009, 08:12:26 PM
How high did you fill the pot during sterilization? It sounds to me that you got a little splash up from the boiling water. You only need to fill the water level an inch or so from the bottom of the jars. You should be fine, just wipe them off with a clean towel, then after that wipe the top with rubbing alcohol, before doing that make sure you oust the area so you don't get any contaminates on your project. You did everything right though it sounds like....

Patience, I have had some stalled cakes myself, the only thing you can do is sit and wait. They don't appear blackened like aborts would. What is your fruiting temp at? Maybe it's too high. 72-76 degrees is what I usually fruit at. Keep high humidity and some indirect light...
Looking good though otherwise. There might be nothing at all wrong.... ^_^
