Untrue, the collection and trading of spores and spore samples is not known to be illigal or immoral in any location of the world. Though, its generally held that there are only a couple states that will not allow the importation of mycological spores or samples. Mostly, this is due to an infusion of forien flora and fawna that have disrupted the ecosystem or may interfere with the local population of an organizm.

For example, you wouldnt want a burmese strain of cubensis making love to a wild texas strain, as over time, the dominant of the two would overtake the enviroment for growth, destroyiong (making extinct) the other strain.

Hope that helps, but to be absolutly sure on how your country handles mycology, it is suggested that you speak with a leagal representative or seek information inside the librarys of law. :)

if your getting a lot of myc.pee... then there are generally held to be two causes.

1) an over abundance in water prior to sterilization. In other words, too much water in your mix.

OR, more likely...

2) an over production of waste from overheating and over colinization. The warmer it is, they tend to make more wastes.

The only solution is to really flip/invert the jars.

Glad to see though your not panicing any more :)

cubensis has a few triggers for pin (Primordia) formation...  Light, Oxygen Exchange, and Heat.  When you flip from incubation to fruiting, there is a Temprature drop of about 10DegreesF usually, CO2 used to be greater than 5000ppm and now must be kept below 500ppm, and of course, light is added in the 480nm wavelength...

Spawn Run:
   Relative humidity: 90%
Substrate temprature: 84-86F, Thermal deth limits established at 106F
   Duration: 10-14 days
   CO2: 5000-10000 ppm
   Fresh Air Exchanges: none
   Light: Incubation in total darkness
Type of casing: After fully run, cover with standard casing layer to a depth of 1-2 inches.
Cassing should be balanced to an initial ph of 6.8-7.2

Post Casing/PrePinning:
   Relative Humidity: 90%
   Substrate Temprtaure: 84-86F
Duration of Cased Run: 5-10 days
   CO2: 5000-10000 ppm
   Fresh Air Exchanges: None
   Light: Incubation in total darkenss

Primordia formation:
   Relative humidity: 95-100%
   Air temprature: 74-78F
   Duration: 6-10 Days
   CO2: Less than 5000ppm
Fresh Air Exchanges: 1-3 per hour
Light: Diffuse natural or exposure for 12-16 hours per day of grow-lux type florecent light,
high in blue spectra at the 480nanometer wavelength.

Cropping:
   Relative Humidity: 85-92%
   Air Temprature: 74-78F
   CO2: Less than 5000 ppm
Fresh air Exchanges: 1-3 per hour
   Flushing pattern: Every 5-8 days
Harvest stage: When the cap becomes fully ocnvex and soon after the partial veil ruptures
Light:; Indirect natural, or same as above.
Yeild Potential: Average yeilds are 2-4 pounds per suare foot over a five week cropping
Period. Maximum yeild potential has not been established.

Hope that helps...

It really does sound like your experianceing a little water settling down and then causing your jars to stall... Simply flip the jars to invert the settling water, and watch them complete teh colinization in a most rapid fashion.

if they are all to expencive for you, I have a site set up to assist most other amature mycologists with whatever they need (or at least whatever I use lol)...

Hope that helps...

Cultivation / Re: Where can I get spores?
March 21, 2007, 04:35:24 AM
Hmm... That may be difficult as Australia has a locked border on imports of new species of just about anything...  I don't think a spore print or syringe will probably be sent in such a case, but I have known a few people there that were in the same position.

I can offer you the only method available to those who wish to only study the spores, not handle or germinate in any way.  A Spore Slide, only available via http://www.mushroomspider.com as no other company seems to carry pre-made slides for microscopy use only.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Sounds like your doing fine...  A little bit on the cooler side of incubation, so its bound to take a little longer.  Optimum incubation temps for cubensis are 84-86F/29-30C, any temp lower than that will add 2 days per degree until you hit about 68F. Then it will take weeks.

Slow colinization is not good. 86F is a good temp for mushroom mycelium and it should run a 250ml jar in less than 10 days completly. Longer than that, and resources are used up in colinization and not in fruiting and your crops will suffer in mass.

Hi there,

In my experiance, the most reliable method to get stalled cakes to run again is to flip them over. Yup, upside down for a few days...  Basically, this is what happens...

In the few days that your jar sits there, the moisture settles to the lesser half of the jar... This allows the colonization to proceed on the upper half like normal, but when it gets to the lower half, its more difficult due to lack of breathing space. Flipping the jars over allows the water to migrate harmlesslyt to the other "end" of the jar, and permit real rapid colinization of the remaining food source in record time.

  Hope that helps...
