Title: How do I get spores from the mushrooms I have now? Noob Questions
Post by: nicklu on March 20, 2012, 04:05:21 PM
I have grown shiitake mushrooms for maybe a week. Two of the four large oak cakes (i think thats what it is) are quickly growing and another is growing a little slower. The last one has been unresponsive.
1What should I do?
2how do I get spores from already grown mushrooms?
3any good websites to get growing equipment (i need pretty much everything)?
Thanks for answering (if you do) my noob questions  ^_^

spore prints are made via cutting the stem as close to the cap and placing the cap on sterile tinfoil...this should be done flow hood or a glovebox...I use a simple GB...place the cap top up on the tinfoil and cover with a glass for 12-24 hrs...when that time is up remove the cap and admire your atristry....then place another piece of foil over the print...then fold all the edges and place in a ziplock...mark the bag with date and species and keep in a dark room-temp area....hth
