PF - Tek / Contamination?
September 30, 2004, 08:00:54 AM
Quoteit doesnt smell no. the "wetness" actually kind of grew over a couple days. for 6 PF jars how much water should I actually use?

Use a 2:1:1 Verm:water:BRF ratio.

It looks like some water leaked into the jar during the sterilization process and washed the BRF off of the verm and down into the bottom an sides of the jars. Use less water in the PC to avoid that.

Look into using coffee filters or, even better, synthetic filter discs, so there can be some air exchange.

During the vegetative (mycelial) stage, the mushroom organism thrives in high CO2 environments, so minimal air exchange is required. However, no air exchange can be detrimental and invite bacterial contamination.

PF - Tek / fuzz balls
September 30, 2004, 07:56:07 AM
QuoteWell I birthed my 100% colonized cakes about two weeks ago, and put them in the fruiting chamber. However they stubbornly refuse to fruit. The mycelium keeps growing producing large white fluffy fuzz balls, but no fruit.

Any suggestions?

Lower the humidity and temperature. What are they at this moment?

Cultivation / What is a flowhood used for
September 30, 2004, 07:33:04 AM
QuoteI was wondering about the flow hood i have been printing up a lot of info about how to do this stuff and i dont know what the flow hood is for. if any one would post here and tell my. thanks

Ultimately, a flow hood is optional but desirable. It maintains a small environment with a reduced contamination presence. A good flow hood is 99.997% efficient, meaning that virtually all airborne contaminants within the area of influence by the flow hood (usually a couple cubic feet) are eliminated while the hood is active.

Check into glove box teks, they are much more economical and about as effective.
