Laying it on it's side won't do anything worth while. Cake size is irrelevant when it comes to pinning. It mainly depends on the strain and the conditions.

A: No, but shake your syringes better next time for better distribution :D

Cubensie's spores aren't clear, they are microscopic. So a small amt of spore's in a syringe could appear to be clear.

Q - Would placing them in a paper towel and setting them in a window seal do the trick?

A - perhaps, but it would take a lot longer and they might not get fully dry. Try to get a fan and some wire mesh, or a dehydrator, if you plan on keeping up with this hobby that is.

Flip your jars and knock on them like you would a door, that will allow sub mass to drop on the lid creating a gap between the uncolonized portion and the bottom of the jar. When it's done colonizing, fruit the hell out of it.
