I had a couple that were fucking beyond just good,THEY WERE GREEEAAAATT

Man, I ain't seen Lucy in the Sky w/ Diamonds (Vitamin A) in any type form in 'bout 12 years!!   Been probably same since I last saw/dropped mescaline.  Damn! I miss those days now that I think about it!

I did go Hippie Trippin' or Candy Flippin', whichever it's called (X and shrooms) - and did a little Cow Tippin'  while I was at it  - a couple of weekends ago and that was WAY COOL   but still doesn't compare to a good acid journey with Pink.

Are you doing WBS or Rye?  A lot will have to do with how aggressive the strain is as well.   I've had pints colonize in a week or less and at the same time, same batch of WBS but innoc'd with diff strain, take up to two weeks to colonize.  If using WBS, I personally like Doc's WBS Tek that can be found here -  http://www.shroomery.org/9030/Docs-Wild-Bird-Seed-Tek   But by no means is this the only tek or the best tek, only the tek that I found works best for me and leaves little question as to correct water content.  I've always had great success with this tek and it has never failed - until recently when I switched brands of seed.  I either simmered too long or did not drain well enough. Well, that probably was not much help, but good luck in your endeavors~!

« on: September 21, 2007, 05:29:19 PM »
Gracias for the reply.  1st time this has happened.  Only thing I changed than from previous jars was brand of WBS.  This mix seemed to have a lot more millet in it and maybe, as such, reatains more water??

Thx again!

The last batch of wbs jars i innoc'd have something not seen before.  They seem to have a lot "milky" liquid in bottom of hars.  Does anybody know what this is?  How it happened / what causes it?  Is the colonized portion of the jar sitll good / can be used?

Any help y'all might have would be most 'preciated.

Thx,

Cultivation / Re: ph balance
« on: September 21, 2007, 01:28:13 AM »
None i that I know of.   With lime variants or calcium carbonate, they are good in setting proper ph balance - especially with coir or peat - but over time they dissipate or lose their effectiveness in acting as a buffer and a loss of proper ph balance thus the result.    The COS is not very good at setting the ph, but over time and as the calcium carbonate loses its' value, the COS acting like a slow release capsule, keeps ph up.

OK, I'm confused (Yea, I know tell ya somethin new) but if a casing is supposed to provide a layer of protection for the myc and help retain moisture but have no nutritional value, then what role does ph play?

For example - I started adding a small amount of crushed oyster shell to 73,30,10 casing and it seems to have  helped as my second and even 3rd flushes seem to be more plentiful, larger and the time between flushes shortened ever so slightly.

So, is that because the ph stays @ a more consistent level longer?? Or is it due to nutrients lasting longer for the myc to draw from??

Anybody else using a slow acting buffer that could help explain to me?

Thx,

p4p

Isn't hipster correct here?  Based on your description psilly, it does sound like the white bumps are h-knots.    Do not hyphal knots become, as they mature, primordia and which primordia the actual state of the onset of pinnage?      At least that's what I thought they were.  Don't mind be corected here if I'm wrong though.

Over a month, huh?  Damn!!   I've - hypothetically of course - colonized jars, spawned some tubs and harvested my first flushes since you started your cakes!!!        But, I'm just givin ya a hard time and shouldn't do that!

Hang in there man and good luck!

Not real familiar with cakes, but I believe 80F is about the highest you'd wanna try to fruit at.  Here's ya some info on cakes.
This is from the "Simple Cubensis Growing Technique" and following is link to site.

Hope this helps.

p4p

Inducing Fruiting (Producing Mushrooms)
In order to initiate fruiting, three main conditions must be met for the cakes:

First, they need light. Only a dim light is needed. A fluorescent lamp or indirect sunlight is plenty of light. Mushrooms do not gain energy from the light like plants do, but in this particular species of mushroom light sends a signal to the mycelium that it is time to produce mushrooms. A source with a wide spectrum of light, especially containing lots of blue light (daylight and fluorescent plant lights are very good examples of light with lots of blue) is best, but a low wattage (15 watts is plenty) incandescent light bulb will supply enough light.

Second, they need a fairly high humidity. 90-95% humidity is a good range for fruiting. The best and easiest way to do this is by lining the bottom of the fruiting chamber with damp perlite. A common mistake is to get the perlite too wet, and end up with a swamp of water and perlite that is very difficult to clean up, and will drown the cakes. Get enough perlite to make at least 1" (2.5 cm) thick layer on the bottom of the fruiting chamber, and put it into a colander, strainer, or cloth enclosure that it can%u2019t slip out of. Wet it thoroughly with normal tap water, and let the water drain out. Then move the perlite into the fruiting chamber and smooth out the surface. You now have a layer of damp perlite that the cakes can be set directly on, and which will keep the humidity in the chamber high enough for the cakes to fruit. By the time your cakes have stopped producing mushrooms, the perlite might start getting a little bit skunky smelling. If you want to reuse it, put it in a baking pan and cook it at 350 degrees in your oven until it is dry. Let it cool, and it%u2019s ready to be used again. You can also add some Hydrogen Peroxide to the wet perlite to help it stay clean a bit longer.

Lastly, it is a good idea to lower the temperature range a bit, to about 75-80 degrees F. Like the light, this signals the cakes to begin fruiting. However, most strains of Psilocybe cubensis fruit so easily that lowering the temperature is not absolutely necessary.

Sorry - guess i didn't pay close enough attention to your post in relation to casing

Have you checked this site????

Cakes, as ya know, ain't my cup o' tea - so to speak - and I'm probably not gonna be any help whatsoever to ya.  :(

Sounds like your temp is in right range, but I don't think your RH is high enough, it should be between 95 - 100.

Check this out.

Anno sent me link and when I raised my RH, it helped me.

What's the temp maintained @?

"the humidity level is high"

What is "high"?  Is it 95 or above??

Just so there is no misunderstanding, this was NOT my quote.     It was meant only to provide another's perspective on brf cakes and indicate how others also have probs with these, as did I also.

However, I did find grains easier as nu b trying to learn (and STILL tryin to learn) and by starting with grains it has helped ME better understand a few of the MANY idiosencrcies that entail 'shroom growing.

peace out!
