PF - Tek / Will removing larger mushrooms earlier....
« on: June 22, 2007, 05:17:55 PM »
Will removing the larger mushrooms earlier, allow more water and etc. to the smaller fruits or developing pins?
Also, is there a reason my mushrooms don't seem to want to grow past a certain point, obviously the strain could be a factor, but even with losing 90% water even the larger mushrooms, which are average sized compared to most pics, seem tiny after they dry, and this is always after the veils break.  They just seem to want to break the veil earlier than I would like them too.  What's up?  Oh, and the potency wasn't too impressive.  I think 1 1/2 cakes worth per person might do the trick, I got so close on 1 cakes worth.

PF - Tek / Anyway to increase a flush?

As the subject says, is there anyway to increase the flushes from cakes that have already started fruiting?

PF - Tek / Blue!?
« on: June 07, 2007, 03:56:04 PM »
Well, I cut away the blue parts that appeared overnight.  Pinning however also appeared overnight.  I just checked and there is a bunch more blueing, I think mybe this is from when I picked them up to cut away the first blue parts?  Is this ok (normal bluing) or is there some super mold looking to ruin my colony?!?

PF - Tek / Need advice ASAP!

So, 2 months in I had fully colonized cakes. Cold shocked them, because they were moving a little slow. Then I put them by an open window, with sunlight, and nothing happened.  Yesterday I moved them back into the closet, in the dark, went and checked today and TONS of pinning at the bottoms.  But when I looked from a top-view, I noticed a slightly blue fuzz on top of the most prolific cake, all of the little mushrooms are at the bottom of the cakes.  Is this something I should eliminate pronto, or is it the same sort of bluing that occurs with psilocybe species.  I need to know fast.  I am very excited, but a little sketchy now, I don't want to lose one of my few cakes.

PF - Tek / Super Fuzzy
« on: May 31, 2007, 11:47:37 AM »
Cakes have been in terrarium for over a week with very high humidity.  I just checked on them and they are very fuzzy (very different from how they were at time of birth), and have slight protrusions that are somewhat round in shape.  Is this a sign that these things want to start fruiting?  I am beginning to think this is a fools errand as the cakes colonized quickly then...nothing.  It had been 6 weeks since inoculation, so I don't think my impatience is unfounded.  Any advice?

PF - Tek / Too much moisture?
« on: May 26, 2007, 10:28:35 AM »
There is condensation on the inside of the fruiting chamber.  Also is there a way to get the cakes to begin pinning?  They are at almost 100% colonized, but they wouldn't progress so I birthed them.  I am using perlite with an airstone/pump, and they are resting on the lids with a little extra vermiculite with water at the bottom of the lids.  Anything sound awry?  Oh and what should the temp be considering there are no signs of pinning yet?

PF - Tek / Stalled...

Well, my mycellium was ripping through very fast, but now I am starting to worry. 3 weeks ago the mycellium was dominating the jar, but it seems to have come to a halt and has about 90% of the jar white.,  Some spots in the jars are starting to brown, as in the are ready to pin, but, the jars are not fully colonized, I am hoping that his will not be a loss, anyone?

PF - Tek / About waiting for mycelium...
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:43:00 PM »
For my first run, I only inoculated 3, 1/2-pint jars (I know it isn't much, but I didn't want to "shoot my wad" on one go).  I was a little worried about the sterilization of the substrate whilst in the jars.  I was worried about the lack of water during the "boiling" period, as I was using a standard pot and not a pressure cooker/canner.  There seemed to be little (though observable) steam escape through the lid.  But, as I have been pretty careful as far as sterilization goes ie. gloves, antibacterial soap, using the cleanest room I have to perform all procedures I am more curious about the fact that there seems to be a slight condensation on the inside of the jars, with no visible water pooling at the bottom.  At what point does anyone more knowledgeable than me (which could be most anybody) expect mycelium to become visible, and is condensation without a noticeable buildup of water what I am looking for or not?.  Also, the jars have been kept in the bathroom with the heat on (the heat builds in the bathroom the most and the thermostat is between 80 and 90 on the dial, so achieving 80 or slightly higher is the norm I would guess), does this sound productive?.  So far does this sound ok?  If not, suggestions please.

PF - Tek / Rookie question
« on: April 12, 2007, 03:16:16 PM »
Ya, I am a newb.  I am preparing my PF TEK enclosure, and am concerned about humidity, as it is quite dry in this part of the States.  It is a rather small rubbermaid container, which I would guess could hold 3 half pint jars worth of substrate/mycellium.  I have an air pump hooked up to a long airstone, and plan will be (obviously) covering with perlite and water, when it is ready.  My question is, how should I control the humidity, will the air coming through the water be sufficient, or should I start thinking of another way to bring it up.  Should make it into a dual chambered setup?  I will not be ready to birth the jars for awhile, but I want to get everything prepared ahead of time.
