I'm building a flow hood and i have to choose between a squirel cage blower and a inline centrifugal duct fans

and i was wondering which one will work best for a flow hood

a 465 CFM Hydrofarm Active air ''squirel cage'' blower
http://www.hydrofarm.com/content/vent_envir.htm

and 465 CFM Vortex powerfan centrifugal iline duct fan
http://www.atmosphere.com/English/vortex.htm

thanks a lot !

Both blowers lack the charts so one could tell exactly which one is fitting for your purpose.

By looking at the power, I see that the squirrel cage blower has only ~20 Watts, whereas the

The  centrifugal inline duct fan has 100 Watts which is in the range of other blowers that I know are sufficient  for a 2x1 ft hepa filter.

The 600 CFM Hydrofarm Active air also looks like it could work.

Mycolaureat

I found a cheap 980 CFM Rubicon squirel cage blower with a 1/6 hp motor !

Now im planing of using a hepa filter for whole house hepa filtration system :

http://www.fantech.net/hepa.htm

The filters are 99.97% effective down to 0.3 microns and seems to be 3-4 inch thick.

Do i really need a 6 inch thick 99,99 % effective filter ?

thanks !

I'm a little bit confuse about my flow hood design ...

I saw some laboratory grade flow hood and the hepa filter was placed in a vertical position.

Whats the difference between a Vetical and a Horizontal laminar flow hood ?

Which one is better ?

No, the 99,97% works well too.

The horizontal design is the standard in mushroom cultivation.

Mycolaureat

anno,
your help has really been appreciated

thank you so much !

I'm now looking for a HEPA filter

I'm gona order from :
http://www.tridim.ca/page/hepafilters.htm

for a 950 CFM blower, should i choose the HEPA or HEPAMAX ?

thanks

The important thing is to find out what airflow delivers your blower according to the initial resistances of the HEPA filter and the prefilter.

Read: http://www.fungifun.org/flowhood/match.htm and/or Appendix II-Laminar Flow Systems-page 347-TMC

Edit: Maybe this might help also, as you can see I was at the same point as you not so long ago. Now, my flowhood is working great (Thanks Anno for your time, knowledge and patience!!!)

Does anyone know what the blower/HEPA combo was that is in the flowhood pictorial? The label on the blower looks like Systemair, but I can't read a model #. http://www.fungifun.org/flowhood/ Thanks in advance!

The HEPA looks like it could be suitable.

But as the last poster said, best would be if you had all the data, which you unforunately don't.

hey everyone i am trying to figure out what the flow hood is for i know its to purifie the air but if you glue and nail all the sides shut how the hell am i going to work in it for my mushrooms. by the way im a total newbi at all this

You don?t work inside like a glovebox, completely sealed. You work in front of it and everthing gets nailed and glued plus siliconed to get all the air from the blower through the filter, and only through the filter. This way you get a laminar airflow which is what you want.

http://www.fungifun.org/cloning/  in this pic you can see someone working in front of the filter.

This one is pro and well finished:  http://www.mycotopia.net/discus/messages/5...html?1004072186

And here you can see the filter while the guy works with agar in front of it:

Those fans are used,

For the 2x1 ft filter the  RVK 160E2-L1 was used.

Mycolaureat

I've just purchased a filter is a 24''x24"x12" Micretain filter from Camfill Farr
http://www.camfil.com/script/productview.a...oppic=top18.jpg

the label on the filter say:
( Efficiency tested
efficiency : 99.48 % at 0.3 micron
O.48 WG
8/9/2004
machine: Camcount )

-Is there a really big difference between 99,48% and 99,97% ?

-If yes, I plan using a UV lamp or small hepa air purifier between the pre-filter and the blower, good idea ?

-what will be a the best blower for that filter ? (considering a 0.2 W.G pre-filter )

-the only reason why i bought this filter is because its 0.5 " W.G
and i thought that my 980 cfm blower will not be powerful enough to push through
a 1.0" W.G Hepa filter.
Am i right ?

thank you so much

I think the Systemair fans are sold in the US under the Fantech name. I don't see an equilivalent for the RVK, but the other models appear similar and are reported to have German-made motors. I'm looking at the FX6XL  (http://www.specialty-lights.com/736075.html) with the HSP924125 filter.(http://www.filtersrx.com/detail_specs_hepa.asp).

anno

I think you are right, this series
http://www.fantech.net/fr.htm
looks identical to the  RVK series of Systemair.
