Title: Can I use malted grains?
Post by: stumbler on March 13, 2011, 01:12:52 PM
I have a bunch of malted grains left over from my homebrewing endeavors that are too old or otherwise unsuitable brewing now. I was wondering if I might be able to use them for mushroom cultivation instead as I would hate to just toss them out. If you think I might be able to use them, what would be the best use IYO?

Well, I haven't been able to find any info online regarding the use of malted grains so I went ahead and bought a few pounds of organic rye berries. I might experiment a little with my malts, though. I don't have any spores yet but will probably pick some up within a couple weeks. Gonna try my hand at PF TEK as well since it looks pretty easy.

On a somewhat related note, has anybody here used rice hulls in place of verm for you PF TEK cakes or for casing material?

sorryman. Haven't tried any of the things to which youare asking. Give it a go and let us know. But if you really want a harvest make sure you follow a tek. No experiment is guaranteed. Good luck
