Title: cakes vs casing
Post by: parkside on September 23, 2010, 06:21:27 PM
This is my first time and everything so far has been working perfectly.  I am now uncertain whether to use the casing method or not.  What are the negative reasons for using this technique because the positive (bigger yield) seems like all the reason I need to do it this way.

parkside,
One of the only negatives is that it increases your chances of contamination. So be extra sterile! My very first casing got the green meanie. The only other thing I can think of is that it takes a couple of days for the mycelium be ready for the fruiting chamber, which really, compared to the bigger yield you get out of it, doesn't really matter. Good luck with your choice. You should post some pics!
