I did a bunch of WBS and some yellow popcorn... I also did a couple of pint jars that were a mix of barley, popcorn, wbs ... the jars with the barley are 100% they were inoculated 2/24... my wbs and popcorn are like 10% done ... I plan on using the mix to do g2g transfers instead of using liquid... it was just kinda weird that the barley took so quick, even in the mix the barley was fully white before the popcorn even thought of colonizing, kinda weird anyways happy trippin all

Cultivation / Re: Problem with mold on casings??
February 25, 2010, 10:07:51 PM
sphagnum peat/verm works great bud. . . done 10 + casings no mold (knock on wood) if you have a microwave just nuke it. . .  I get the mix.. peat/verm/oyster shells kinda moist but not to wet, nuke it till its almost dry. . .  I put the tray with moist verm (1/2" across btm) and throw that in the oven on 300 for 20min. that's just the way I go about it though. .  . . . . other than that they seem to be pretty tolerant to mold. . . good luck

well sounds like your on the right track Benjamin ... you just don't want the cakes themselves to get to hot so as long as you have some distance between your heater and the cakes should be fine. . .  remember your only trying to keep it around 70 in the FC a little warmer is ok and a little colder is ok... just don't overheat the little guys  ^_^

Cultivation / Re: casing my grains with??
February 22, 2010, 09:17:31 AM
well you definitely don't want to use straw/manure for your casing material, straw manure goes on bottom. . .  I use peat/verm/oyster shells/lime flour for casing material, I heard verm/cor works well to. . . probably just your preference. . . .
- yes you do want to lay out your grains then top with casing. . .
  good luck

anybody have any tips to tell if popcorn has the right saturation??? I simmered for 50min. . .  opened up a couple of kernels to check the inside, and it is moist but seems like could be wetter. . .  The WBS was pretty easy to tell when the kernels where full. . .  any advise???
