Cultivation / Re: Cakes still not colonized =[

Its kind've obvious which one I think is contaminated haha I forgot to point to where I think a mushroom is growing though. heh so it's safe for me to start fruiting now?

Well luckily you didn't do that yet. Cause from what I've managed to learn vermiculite and water won't even grow proper mushrooms. You need some form of nutritional base for the mushrooms to eat. Thats why you usually will see brown rice flour, vermiculite and water as a substrate.

include millet in your substrate mixture. From what others have said around here mycellium grows fantastic in that stuff.

Well heres a funny thing... One cake is actually fruiting in the non-fully colonized jar.. ahha. Should I birth it now or what? I took two pictures of two jars. Once they send to my addy I'll post them here. Just out of curiousity could I pluck that much off and consume it xD

Well when I discarded the contaminated cats I had broke them apart and paid attention to the smell and texture. It did feel kind erasery. When I get up I'll take some pictures of the jars. I barely check on them anymore in fear of contams being in there. I'll take pictures of the worst looking parts

Well I assumed the top protective layer wouldn't colonize, but there the area that isn't colonized is near the top of the jar only(for the most part). This part is how ever a BRF cake not the protective layer. Is it safe to shake the jar right now I am scared as it is that my last two jars are contaminated as well :(

Well some of you might remember my topic about my first batch, well they still aren't fully colonized I see about a cm or more of uncolonized dirt. Is this normal for this length of time for BRF cakes?

I don't have much experience but from what my cakes look like now, that does not look good. Don't take work for it though I'm just getting started

I actually don't mind the taste. I'm just wondering is it normal to be laughing your ass of for no apparent reason while you are shrooming?

Thats the thing guys, when I disposed of my contaminated cakes they ALL smelled like mushrooms(they all had green mold spots). But least its nice to know that if a jar is colonized the mycellium won't cover up the contaminated area.

heh thanks for the suggestion. I just hope what I'm paranoid about on my one cake isn't a contaminate. If it is would it be full blown able to see by full colonization? Or could mycellium actually take over that spot and cover it?

Eek I don't want that, I read that I could put my colonized jars in the fridge until they are ready for birthing, is this indeed true?

Well probably after xmas I will be able to buy the hygrometer now, if by chance my cake is fully colonized and I try to put it into a terrarium that isn't 90% humidy what might happen?

I've got a hydrometer already. I checked at a hardware store and they didn't have any products by flukers. My hydrometer is reading 78.
