hi i was jsut wondering once ive made a casing using pf-tek simpleminds jars when to add light? (using compact flourescent bulbs) right ayway? or wait for the white stuff to grow ontop, then add light? and hopfeully they start to grow how much light a day will they need to grow when fruiting? and at what temperature? using treasure coast and ecaudor strains ( cant spell ) thanks
After casing you cover the casing with aluminum foil for a couple of days until the mycelium first starts to poke through. Then you remove the foil and place the casing in the fruiting chamber. This is when the light comes in.
ok thanx for clearing that up. another thing im unclear about is how much light a day do they need and at what air temp?been looking around the site for an answer but havent found any.
I plug my lights in when i wake up and shut them off when I goto bed.
You could get away with as little as 2 hrs of light a day.
so any where between 2-12hrs of light is plenty.
I keep temps in my FC at 70-76 degrees.
hope that helps and good luck with your grow -_-
thank you for the reply baph, it helped alot
your welcome. -_-
hope your grow goes well for -_-
Boo... Ok, here I'll CnP a bit of datum I've collected about the enviromental conditions that are required by P. cubensis...
Spawn Run:
Relative humidity: 90%
Substrate temprature: 84-86F, Thermal deth limits established at 106F
Duration: 10-14 days
CO2: 5000-10000 ppm
Fresh Air Exchanges: none
Light: Incubation in total darkness
Type of casing: After fully run, cover with standard casing layer to a depth of 1-2 inches.
Cassing should be balanced to an initial ph of 6.8-7.2
Post Casing/PrePinning:
Relative Humidity: 90%
Substrate Temprtaure: 84-86F
Duration of Cased Run: 5-10 days
CO2: 5000-10000 ppm
Fresh Air Exchanges: None
Light: Incubation in total darkenss
Primordia formation:
Relative humidity: 95-100%
Air temprature: 74-78F
Duration: 6-10 Days
CO2: Less than 5000ppm
Fresh Air Exchanges: 1-3 per hour
Light: Diffuse natural or exposure for 12-16 hours per day of grow-lux type florecent light,
high in blue spectra at the 480nanometer wavelength.
Cropping:
Relative Humidity: 85-92%
Air Temprature: 74-78F
CO2: Less than 5000 ppm
Fresh air Exchanges: 1-3 per hour
Flushing pattern: Every 5-8 days
Harvest stage: When the cap becomes fully ocnvex and soon after the partial veil ruptures
Light:; Indirect natural, or same as above.
Yeild Potential: Average yeilds are 2-4 pounds per suare foot over a five week cropping
Period. Maximum yeild potential has not been established.
Moisture content of mushroroms: 92% water, 8% dry matter
Hope that helps...

ya those are all optimal but,
during spawn run higher temps can cause higher contam rate,I.M.E I have had more succsess with lower colonization temps.More like 70-75 degrees,And I let the Mycelium heat the jars as they produce heat as they grow.
Yes they may take a little longer but is worth the end result.
I also Incubate my trays at the same temps. and within 2 days(depending on strain),I may have to "patch",and if I patch,I move them to my FC.
Once in my FC,temps flucuate between 68-78 degrees. My RH stays at a average of 93%
and in those conditions within 1 week I harvest a flush.
All of this is from my expeirence with growing :)
