I'm on my first grow too, with Cambodians. It is best to pick them when the veil breaks away from the cap, and the cap is open, that's what I've done. You also want to get them out before the spores drop into your FC.

The cake still looked pretty sketchy so I tossed it.

Another quick question: If a mushroom drops it's spores in the FC can/will it leave a purple stain on the top of the cake that may look suspicious? Like a contaminate?

IMO those cakes dont look fully comlonized..

They may have been birthed a little early b/c some were pinning in the jar. All my cakes have fruited.

I wouldn't tread on other peoples territory, especially when there is that big of a crop planted. It might get hazardous/dangerous. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I got kind of excited about my cakes and had an accident. Whoopsie daisey.

I know the saying: when in doubt throw it out. But I just wanted a little confirmation from my peers about this one. What do you think?

I think I may have one contaminated cake. I saw a black smudge on the top and I put a Q-tip to it and the black shit rubbed off on it. I removed it this morning and cut out the black spot and poured peroxide on it and then isolated it. Probably going to throw it out today.

I can't wait, I told my girlfriend I'd wait to trip with her, but she's going out of town next week from Tues - Saturday night. So one week from tonight and I'll be trippin' balls. Hopefully I'll have more mushies by then.

What gauge are you using for therm/hum?

The name on it is "Taylor"

Roughly how much was it and where can I pick one up?

I think I paid around $12 and I got it at an "Ace Hardware"

But, I am currently testing it for accuracy and I think it may be off by 10% on humidity (on the low side). This is checked by putting it in an airtight container with a bottle cap full of salt and letting it sit for 3-4 hours, it should read 75% humidity. If it's off, then adjust accordingly. I may switch to a non-digital hygrometer if it doesn't work out.

Here are the mushies before I harvest them. One cake is full of them. I'm stoked! Too bad my girlfriends parents are coming into town this afternoon for the weekend.....FML

I'm on the low end of money right now and can't put too much into this right now (unfortunately). Hopefully soon I can give the mushies the environment they deserve.

I have taped up all the holes except the ones closest to the perlite and I untaped all the holes on the bottom too. My humidity is still at 87%. I added another inch of perlite too since my last post. Also, three of the caps on the bigger mushrooms have opened up and I will probably harvest them tomorrow along with a few other potential suspects. I will hope for a better second flush, with my environment in my control.

What's up everyone?

So my cakes are in my shotgun FC and I started out with 90% RH and it's been as high as 94%. I taped up all my holes like I read in a different thread (Shotgun FC not a Reality?). I didn't want to hijack that thread so I started this one.

Today my RH dropped down in the 87% - 89% RH. I have rewet the perlite and put my cakes on smaller pieces of tin foil to maximize the surface area. I also taped the lid on tight. Is there anything you guys would recommend doing in addition to these few things to get my RH up?

Well, I did the Q-tip test and nothing came off, so I'm going to leave everything the way it is. I'm still up for comments/suggestions on the pic.

Hey PW, I didn't get your post until after I dunked and rolled my cakes (12 hrs), so the pins didn't get picked off. The big ones in the pics (above) are the biggest and healthiest ones in the chamber (no signs of contams anywhere).

I am about to dunk and roll a few more colonized cakes with pins showing. Why is it recommended to pick off the pins before hand?
